harvest is Melbourne-born, Melbourne-bred and Melbourne-based.

Originally brought together by RMIT’s Professional Writing and Editing course, the harvest team is a small bunch of dedicated people interested in the creative arts. In 2007, we formed our own small press and began the often topsy-turvy journey to publication.

We’re enthusiastic about literature, new writing and independent media. But most importantly, we love a good read.

We believe that a literary magazine can not only provide opportunities for fresh writing but that it can also be fun.

harvest is born out of our desire to produce a tactile and engaging publication for a well-read audience. An audience who believes that good writing can be both attractive and intelligent.

The co-founders and managing editors

are Davina Bell, Julia Carlomagno and Rachael Howlett.

Our 9-5pm roles sees us editing, writing and wrangling on a daily basis. Our enthusiasm for our publication means we love clocking off to bring harvest to life.

As writer and editors, we understand the difficult path to publication. We founded harvest as a structure for literary offerings and visual splendour to blossom.

Together we toil to get harvest ready for publication, sharing all the responsibility that comes along with rolling out this juggernaut production. We are the proud publishers of this most handsome literary magazine.

The poetry editor

is Geoff Lemon, our (and the 2007 Melbourne Writers’ Festival) Poetry Idol. Geoff manages all your verses. Geoff’s first book, Sunblind, has just been released by Picaro Press. He is a six-time slam winner and runs Melbourne’s Wordplay readings (aka Blue Velvet). His work appears in Best Australian Short Stories, Going Down Swinging, and Blue Dog.

From issue four, Josephine Rowe (writer, usherette, life model and casual insomniac) will taking up the poetry editor hotseat.

Josephine’s work has been published widely and read on Radio National and 3RRR. Her books, Asynchrony; East of Here, Close to Water; and, How a Moth Becomes a Boat, are available through all good independent bookstores.

The design

coordinated and undertaken by our art director, the unflappable Imogen Stubbs. Imogen is a typesetter, graphic designer and editor from Melbourne. When not being cajoled into producing work for harvest, she spends her free time dancing in the kitchen, baking carrot cake and drinking tea.

The original design

developed in conjunction with the harvest editors by Marc Martin. See more of Marc’s work at www.smallandquiet.com.
